Joseph B Vickers b 1884 GA in Black and White with Lott Family

This case shows the benefit of looking at the source image. I was working on my wife's cousins - Elam Lott family in Coffee GA. In the 1900 census they are listed as White and Joseph B Vickers age 16 and Black is listed as the last person in the household. I could see this information from the index. Joseph is listed as a grandson. So different last name, different race, and Elam Lott at age 28 is too young to be a grandfather!

Looking at the image I could see a Vickers family next door where the head of the household, Henry Vickers age 74, is old enough to be Joseph's grandfather and is Black. Perhaps Joseph was staying with the Lott family or the census taker just used up a line available for the record. Henry's daughter Martha is in his household with a grandson John. Martha could be Joseph's mother.

Joseph shows as in Elam's house and Family Search allows you to track these relationships. I also created records and attached sources to Henry Vickers and his relations. Since I was not sure who Joseph's parents are, I created an unknown Vickers father and linked Joseph an other grandchildren of Henry where the parents were not known. See screens below from my Family Tree phone app.

Peter Vickers could be his father based on his birth year and the birth years of his children. See Peter's children below and then his sbilings.
