Martin Luther - my connection in genes or memes
Martin Luther’s daughter Margaretha - Born about 1534
Did she have a son name Emmerich Wagner when she was about 15 years old and before being married?
Her father died when she was 11 years old and her mother died when she was about 18 or older. She did marry when she was about 19 years old. After her father died, the theologian, Philip Melanchthon became her guardian. At her marriage, he said she was a virgin. If she had a child before her marriage, was he covering for her? Or was he using a more graceful and forgiving use of the word virgin as a virtuous person who has been forgiven of any sin or sin against her?
Emmerich is one of my great grandfathers and my disputed link to Martin Luther. There are past records of Family history, showing him linked to Margaretha, but they are questionable. They may have been made up by those who wanted to be linked to Luther. Or those who dispute this link may not have wanted to recognize a birth out of wedlock. Either way I will claim Martin Luther as a spiritual great grandfather.
