Moses Raeford, son Edward, and father Samuel Mackey
The range of birth year estimates and the three women raise the question of whether there is more than one Moses in this area and time. However I have not found other sources that would support this possibility. Emancipated people often have a wide range of birth year estimates. He lived long enough to have outlived two wives while being married to one at a time. Consider source for third wife and suppositions of first and second wives.
His son Edward seems to have had two wives with several children from both and a gap of several years between. See if these records should be for two men with one going by the name Ed.
See links below. I first researched these families around 2016 when helping Daisy Mayhew and James Raeford of Davidson, Mecklenburg, NC.
In August 2024, a user on FamilySearch saw my work and contacted me about Moses who is her ancestor. She had done extensive research and found that his father was Samuel Mackey who was emancipated in 1849. See notes. This shows the great value of collaboration on FamilySearch that has a global family tree of those who have died.
Consider keeping a separate family tree not on FamilySearch in case other users make mistakes on your family lines. Ancestral Quest is a system that allows you to import information from FamilySearch.
