Pledge Jones born 14 Dec 1921 in Florida per sources, but his daughter says a different date and place were given to Social Security. See record of birth on 24 Dec 1919 in Alabama with Emma Welch and David L Jones as his parents. A key question is whether they are his parents or grandparents. He likely moved from Florida to Alabama as a boy. His father and grandfather names seem to be David L and Luther and perhaps one or both are David Luther Jones. His mother and grandmother names seem to be Leola Williams and Emma Welch. See name variations in sources.


Luther Jake Jones is Pledge’s brother. I found his 1940 draft record and 1940 census both in Alabama that confirm Emma is their grandmother. The draft record shows Luther J Jones as born Feb 1919 in Rhine GA. I found the draft record in Ancestry. There may be a missing year index in FamilySearch.
